The Duty And The Threshold

ORC 5579.08 requires brush, briers, vines and noxious weeds along the public highway to be cut between June 1–20 and August 1–20, and again September 1–20 if necessary. It is a recurring statutory duty with dates attached, and the same section lets the superintendent employ the labour to carry it out.
ORC 5575.01, amended effective April 3, 2025, requires a township road contract to be let to the lowest responsible bidder after advertisement only where the amount involved exceeds $105,000. Below that figure a board is not driven into a competitive bid by this section. Your fiscal officer owns that determination — the threshold adjusts each July 1 and other sections can apply — but a single township's brush season usually sits well under it.
