Brush Hogging — Heavy-Duty Field Clearing
Tractor-mounted rotary cutter for grass, weeds, and light brush under 3 inches. Not mulching — this is heavy-duty mowing for fields, meadows, pastures, and vacant lots. Flat $624 per acre.
Heavy Mowing, Not Mulching
Brush hogging is a tractor-mounted rotary cutter that mows tall grass, thick weeds, and light brush up to 3 inches in diameter. It is the service you need when a regular lawn mower cannot handle the growth but you do not have trees or heavy brush that require forestry mulching.
The key difference: brush hogging mows vegetation at ground level. Forestry mulching grinds it — trees, stumps, and all — into fine mulch below grade. If your vegetation is thicker than your arm, you need forestry mulching. If it is grass, weeds, and thin saplings, brush hogging does the job at a fraction of the cost.

When to Upgrade to Forestry Mulching
Brush hogging handles grass, weeds, and saplings up to 3 inches. Once vegetation exceeds that threshold — established trees, woody brush, stumps that need to be ground below grade — you need forestry mulching. The Cat 275 XE and HM418 Mulcher grind trees up to 8 inches in a single pass.
